Hospice is designed to optimize your comfort and quality of life so you can make the most of the time you have left, whether it's days, weeks, or months. In addition to pain and symptom management provided by doctors and nurses, hospice offers personal care through certified nursing assistants, and emotional and spiritual support through counselors, social workers, and chaplains. Volunteers are also available to provide companionship and respite.
Our Foundation, Serenity Foundation Gives, goes above and beyond to meet needs and grant wishes for our patients and their families. We have been able to provide funds for electricity bills, and helped in buying groceries, lift chairs, and batteries for wheelchairs are just a few. Serenity Foundation Gives also granted those wishes such as: getting them to a child's graduation, getting a fishing trip planned for that last time spent together; provided newborn photography, to a family with the news of their baby not able to leave the hospital due to a terminal illness. or something as simple as meeting their favorite all-time sports figure.
Hospice care is intense, but also slow and sweet. The days are sometimes long, but they can go by in a flash. Every patient is a whole new story, making the time with each of them a discovery of loves and needs. We can’t fill all those needs, but we can be sure that my patient feels a little more ready to face the day, to enjoy that family gathering, that birdsong through the window, or “just” that bowl of strawberry ice cream. It’s a small thing that we can do in order to give back to them for all that they teach us.
